This training is intended to inform employees of their rights and to help everyone identify and properly report any issues. It is our intention to strive for a work environment that is free from unlawful discrimination and harassment. Should an incident occur, we want our staff trained to handle the situation appropriately.
California passed a law (AB 1825) requiring that all employees and supervisors be trained regarding these issues. While it is not a requirement in VA, we are voluntarily providing this training in order to prevent discrimination and harassment before it occurs.
We will be covering topics such as explaining the various protected classes as defined under federal and state law, identifying inappropriate behavior, raising awareness and providing a refresher on our Unlawful Harassment and Discrimination policy and reporting procedure.
This training is intended to be informative, not punitive.

I look forward to learning the difference between lawful discrimination and harassment and that tasteless unlawful kind referenced in your e-mail below. I see this as an excellent opportunity to learn exactly where that line lies, so that in the future I may gallop towards it, stumble around it, recklessly cavort in front of it, yet remain professionally and legally unscathed, having attended this training seminar.
Thanks,
Crumpler
